SOCIAL NETWORKING FOR DUMMYS; A GUIDE FOR THE ENTREPRENEUR

Are you a writer? Store owner? Singer?
Social networking is your promotional tool. The internet, Google, Yahoo, and search engines use bots commonly referred to as spiders or crawlers. These bots scour the internet for synchronicity. They are looking for names and words, especially those that are repeated often, and in multiple sources. Your job is to increase your ranking. In doing so, you are increasing the chances that someone will come across your business when they are randomly searching the internet. You are creating billboards along the freeway. The more you create, the better the chances that someone will pull over and visit your store. Ok, so here is what you need to do.

I. Search for the most popular sites that relate to your business and join their networks.
A. If you are into promoting art and music to a young demographic, try myspace.
B. For business sales/retail/commerical owners, try www.linkedin.com.
C. There are so many more; Do the research

II. Make a list of all the accounts you have with usernames and passwords
A. (Facebook, LinkedIn, etc).
B. Keep the list every week and visit each site on the list every week
C. Read and comment your friend's and associate's profiles and comments.
1. In doing so, they will link back to you, adding content to your page

 and increasing your viewership
D. Search for others that you can network with who share your interests.
E. Add at least 5 people a week to each of your profiles.
 1. More is better. YOU ARE NETWORKING.

III. The name of the game is content. Consistent content.
A. People look at this and say "oh wow, they are busy, they are important"
B. This could be as simple as 2-5 photos a week with small captions on your pages.
1. For instance, you arrive at a client's house and this is photo one

with a caption that reads "another new client."
2. Your next photo is the plumber putting new toilets in your  office with the caption "we are always expanding."
3. Another is a house party you have for clients. These all exude success!
C. Stay consistent and people will keep track of your business and  maintain interest.
D. People love to use photos to stereotype your business. So use this  to your advantage.
E. People also love to share the photos, which leads others back to your page.

IV. Location tagging!
A. It is vital that you show how far your business reaches.
1. Always tag new locations when you are there.
B. A simple blog about being in Ireland, or South Florida, or

 Connecticut makes your business global.
1. It also increases matches on those search terms.
C. Whenever you are somewhere new, grab a photo, or something that  indicates you were there, that you can place on your social networking websites.

V. DONT GIVE UP! It will take time.

Achieving Expert Status

 Social Visibility

When I was a child, my mother's duty as an english lady was to bestow us with what she referred to as "proper elocution." Apparently, the term elocution is not commonly used here in the States.

Webster defines elocution as the skill of clear and expressive speech. My mum, on the other hand, outlined elocution as a disposition or comportment that was exuded. With proper engineering, this characteristic portrays an individual who is important and respectable. Simply put, when she talked, people listened. Mother attributed this, in part, to an exemplary understanding of elocutionary skills. I realize now, that this skill is one of the single most sought after in the popular american community. It seems that, no matter how knowledgeable the source, poor elocutionary skills almost certainly equate to low visibility.

Case in point, Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs is the Macintosh mastermind and driving force behind the most profitable consumer item of all time, the iphone. Yet, in comparison to his historically essential status, his social visibility is quite low. Due to his monetary influence, he may be included in an elite roster of socialites, but popular american society does patronize him with the highest levels of observation or flattery.

Why is this? Elocution! Through effective utilization of elocutionary skills, one can command an audience that spans all classes.

Let's compare Oprah Winfrey to Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs's revolutionary impact on the IT industry and technological advances will resound for eons. His technical knowledge alone is something of a prodigious and almost mystical nature. Then why does Oprah garner such greater name recognition and notoriety than Steve Jobs? The answer is elocution. Through practical use of her elocutionary talents, Oprah has established herself as a credible source. She has achieved expert status on many subjects of which she has had no traditional training. From diets to investment tips, Ms. Winfrey doles out the advice, and millions of americans take it in, begging for more.

Oprah was not always seen as a credible expert. She first began as a barely visible journalist. Through proper use and development of elocution, she gained social visibility. As her visibility increased, so did her experience in the real world. As her experience increased, so did her credibility. Expertise, coupled with visibility creates credibility. Credibility, in turn, increases visibility. Do you see how this becomes exponential?

How can you become the master of your business? Your business is, firstly, yourself. Master yourself. Master your elocution.
