We all know that the housing market started all the problems we are seeing the the financial world, but has the internet help to precipitate the problem? I keep seeing articles comparing of our current downward spiral of the economy to past recessions, going all the way back to the Great depression. All the analysts agree that our situation is worse then any time in history other than the Great Depression, and that investor fears, market confidence is to blame.
Since the advent of the internet more and more individual investors are actively involved in the stock market, as online brokerages have made it easy for novices to get involved. It seems that all the new people brought to the markets thru the internet are at least helping to compound the issues. In the past, even back in 1987, the only people in the market were professional investors who had the skills needed (for the most part) to work the market, and then when confidence was lost the economy suffered. Now novices and everyday people come into the picture. When Wall Street has lost confidence, individual investors lose confidence adding to market losses. If it weren't for the internet allowing the new breed of investors to come to the table would the current situation be as bad?
Obama's Future???
Thursday November 06, 2008
Has it occurred to anyone that having Obama elected as the first black president might be one of the worst things that could happen to both him and the rest of America? I am not racist and am not saying that a black man as president is a bad thing, however there are other people within the U.S. that are extremely racist. That being said, what do you think the likely-hood of an attempt being made on Obama's life will be? I'm guessing that through his term he will see multiple plots against his life, even before he takes the oath.
That explains how bad things could be for Obama, now lets think about how bad this could be for the rest of the U.S.. If Obama is assassinated think how much violence will break out amoung different racial groups. Also, right now countries around the world are celebrating the fact that America has elected a minority member as president, what will that say about the U.S.'s internal strength if our own president is assassinated by our own country-men? How will that affect foreign diplomacy? And how far back will an assassination, or even an attempt set back the next minority member?
These are just some thoughts I've had, I personally believe that Obama has the opportunity to do something great, however due to the narrowed mindedness of some might not have the chance. Also, the very worst thing that could happen to the U.S. would be for any attempts to be made on Obama's life, because if a successful attempt were made it would set America back to the time of JFC & MLK, decades back from how far we have come.
